Antar Ajong

West borneo has very heterogenous and unique culture. one of example is  antar  Anjong. Antar  Ajong is a traditonal  ritual ceremony to plant paddy that is  carried out every year in the planting season. 

The location of this ceremony is spread out in Paloh, Tanah Hitam, Sambas regency. It is  usually be held in the mid year around june or july .

In the beginning , this traditional ceremony is one of the way to show the relationship between the goverment and majapahit. Long ago paloh  territory was occupied by the  Majapahit . so, people sent tribute to Majapahit Kingdom using lancang kuning. Since this habit turned into a tradition developed in the community

 

antar ajong becomes a ritual performed to prevent the public from all the negative things such as disease outbreaks, pest plants, and natural disasters. This ritual is also a sign to began the planting season.

This traditional ceremony is started by making mini boat lead by the chief . carried out  two days before the ceremony is held. At the ceremony night people held a traditional event called evil spirits .  in the mini boat contains various custom cake , mini doll human looks a like and cattle, small kitchen set to cook ,spices , rice and paddy along with  its stalks packaged in small bag , areca nut seeds , tools  nail and white yarn, slepping equipment pillow and bolster, seven handfuls in seven color rice, agricultural equipment and carpentry . After everything is ready , it’s time to go.

In a day and night after ajong boat is released , people how live in the village are not allowed to  slaughter any animal. The risk of the tradition banned was violated, is making not less than 100 rice cake  to be  delivered to the open sea.
